Health insurance is complicated.
We’re here to simplify it.
How do I cancel my health insurance mid-year if I’m looking to switch plans?
If you’d like to cancel your participation with the Decent administered Texas Freelancers Association (TFA) benefit plan, please reach out to Decent's customer service team 31 days before the date at which you’d like your coverage canceled so that your request can be processed.
If you’re curious how to go about leaving any other plan we recommend either consulting this article “How to cancel your insurance” on Healthcare.com reaching out directly to your provider for specific information on leaving your plan.
If you’re looking to move to a new insurance plan outside of open enrollment, make sure that you either have a “qualifying life event” or that you’ve found a plan like the TFA Trailblazer plan that accepts qualified new members year round.
Why does Decent need me to prove that I’m a freelancer, and how do I do that?
Decent is administering a health insurance plan for the Texas Freelancer Association in order to qualify for health benefits, members must demonstrate that they are indeed freelancers.
Decent will leverage new regulations to administer affordable comprehensive health plans for freelancers. The new regulations won't let us serve everyone right away, though we expect to do so eventually. We're starting this year in Austin Texas, and will initially serve freelancers doing knowledge-based work in specific business, creative, health, and technical fields. Take a look and see if you or someone you know is eligible:
BUSINESS: Accountant, Business Analyst, Consultant, Data Analyst, Financial Analyst, Insurance Agent or Broker, Lawyer, Market Researcher, Marketer, Real Estate Agent or Broker
CREATIVE: Actor, Architect, Artist, Designer, Illustrator, Musician, Photographer, Videographer, Translator, Writer
HEALTH: Licensed Healthcare Professional
TECHNICAL: Data Scientist, Engineer, Hardware Engineer/Developer, IT Professional, QA Tester, Scientist, Software Engineer/Developer
We’re working hard to expand our offering and hope to include more and more people as soon as we can.
I don’t live in Decent’s service area. When will it be available where I live?
Decent is administering its first plan, the Trailblazer plan in the city of Austin, TX with the explicit goal of providing the highest value insurance we can to plan members. As such, we will be partnering with a network of doctors, hospitals, and specialists. This will help members get care that is as affordable as it is comprehensive.
We’re working to expand as quickly as possible, but in the meantime, we recommend that you sign up for our mailing list in order to stay up to date on our progress.
Can I use my HSA plan to pay for my premiums?
Unfortunately, no. The Trailblazer plan is not currently designed in a way that will allow HSA contributions
I’m not a freelancer.
When will Decent have plans for me?
Decent and the TFA are fully focused on developing our services to serve all types of freelancers initially. While we’d love to serve small and large businesses, we currently don’t have any definitive plans to expand our offering.
